Kentucky’s Mighty Wurlitzer-Theater Organ Project, Inc, (KMW-TOP, Inc.) a not-for-profit, tax exempt Kentucky corporation, will provide design, funds, restoration and reinstallation consultants, maintenance, fund-raising activities, programs and performers for the theater organ and equipment for the benefit, education and cultural enrichment of the public. The corporation will bear all costs for this theater organ restoration project and its maintenance.
The University of Kentucky received the theatre organ from the estate of Oscar Wilson in 1989 and has agreed to provide the organ to the Corporation for restoration, modification and reinstallation in the Kentucky Theater. The University will retain title to the restored theatre organ and all new equipment and improvements.
The Kentucky Theater Group, Inc was established in April 1992, by Analy Scorsone, Howard Stovall and Fred Mills after significant public interest in reopening the Kentucky Theater became apparent to them. Both Scorsone and Stovall were long-time patrons of the Kentucky theater prior to the fire in an adjacent restaurant which closed the theater in October 1989. The Kentucky Theater Group, Inc was founded to manage the historic theater with a variety of motion pictures and concert events which would be unique to the Kentucky.
Fred Mills, long-time Lexington movie theater manager since 1970, is general manager of the Kentucky Theater. He is an enthusiast for Lexington’s lost theaters and was the last general manager of the Strand Theater (1975) and former manager of both Kentucky and Cinema (State) Theaters.
The Kentucky Theater Group, Inc is a "for-profit", independent company which offers both mainstream films, art films and concerts at popular prices. The Kentucky Theater Group is impassioned about the Kentucky Theater and its operations, and supports the efforts of Kentucky’s Mighty Wurlitzer-Theater Organ Project, Inc to return the Wurlitzer pipe organ to its original Kentucky Theater home.
The Lexington Fayette Urban-County Government (LFUCG) owns and maintains the Kentucky Theater where the theatre organ will be reinstalled by the Corporation. A management contract is maintained between the LFUCG and KTG for operation of the movie theater.
