FUND RAISING SUMMARY

Fund Raising Plan

Progress report, September 2000

Fund raising for this project has been organized into four distinct phases in

order to expedite the time-intensive restoration schedule required for the

theatre pipe organ & associated equipment. The total budget for this project is

$475,106 and consists of the following fund-raising phases:

Phase 1 - Planning and Marketing $25,000

This phase, started in 1995, was completed during January 1998. Funded partially

by a matching grant from the Kentucky Heritage Council and a GTE Foundation grant,

funds raised during this phase underwrote hiring of technical and restoration consultants,

and architectural layout design and construction documents. Technical consultant’s project feasibility and restoration analysis, reinstallation drawings and recommendations,

production of a project video, printing and mailing of the first quarterly

newsletter and the attainment of a non-profit bulk mailing permit were accomplished.

Phase 2 - Theatre Organ & Equipment $192,906

Fund raising to finance this phase began February 23, 1998 and covers organ

rebuilding, new equipment, reinstallation, and tonal finishing of the instrument.

Restoration and rebuilding will require over a year of labor intensive work by

Carlton Smith Pipe Organ Restorations, Indianapolis, IN, before the theatre pipe organ

can be placed back in the Kentucky Theater. The last eleven weeks of the process will be

the actual reinstallation of the Wurlitzer in the Kentucky Theater and will involve coordination

with Lyn Larsen of Musical Contrasts, Inc., Phoenix, for field adjustments and tonal finishing. To date, $95,000 has been contributed by private individuals, businesses and corporations

toward the Phase 2 goal.

Phase 3 - Kentucky Theater Building Modifications $207,200

These funds will be utilized for new construction in the theater necessary to reinstall the

theatre pipe organ. This phase is scheduled for timely completion to coincide with the return of

the restored Wurlitzer to the Kentucky Theater for the actual reinstallation process.

The 1990 renovation of the Kentucky Theater precluded the possibility of returning

the theatre pipe organ to its original pipe chambers and orchestra pit locations.

New construction in the theater will be required for new pipe chambers, pit and hydraulic

console lift, and electrical and mechanical systems. Mayor Miller has stated

she will assist with fund-raising and government facilitation of this phase when private

individuals and grant sources have completed phase 2 fund-raising.

Phase 4 - Operations and Maintenance Fund $50,000

This phase will begin after completion of Phase 3 and will be utilized for

ongoing organ maintenance, insurance, and supplemental funds to cover special

educational events and area school activities. This is an historic cinematic

musical instrument with 1146 individual pipes and a multitude of percussions.

This Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ will be used daily between movies for live and MIDI concerts.

It will require supplemental tuning on a regular basis and full tuning prior to each public

subscription concert.
